Backsplash Materials for Kitchens

After graduating from high school, Danita Lee left her hometown of Vidor, TX, to attend the Lamar Institute of Technology in Beaumont. Danita Lee now works at Southwest Stainless & Alloy in Nederland, which is approximately 25 minutes from Vidor, TX. Ms. Lee spends much of her free time doing home renovations.

Many home renovations include kitchen updates, such as a new backsplash to give the room a fresh look. In addition to traditional tile, many other backsplash materials are available, including:

– Glass. The reflective surface of a glass backsplash can brighten a dark kitchen and give the room a modern look. Homeowners can add color by applying a coat of paint to the backside of the glass or buying tinted panels.

– Metal. Favored for its durability, stainless steel backsplashes come in multiple finishes. Depending on the desired look, homeowners may install a full panel or use metal tiles.

– Concrete. A material that has become increasingly popular in modern kitchen renovations, concrete should be treated with a surface sealant to make it water- and stain-resistant.
